DEER BROOK HISTORY

Little is known about the early history of our 1820 farmhouse though the date of its construction is recorded in town records.  Legend has it that the original owners remained loyal to The Crown and, after numerous “run ins” with locals, made a hasty departure in the dark of night.  Years later, the property was purchased by the Cole Family.  The Cole’s enjoyed great success with their 300-acre dairy farm and fed many a weary traveler at their roadside restaurant.  In the middle of the last century, most of the acreage was sold and the large barns disappeared from the landscape.
In 1986, Rosemary and Brian McGinty purchased the property.  The McGinty’s came from Breckenridge, Colorado with a dream of turning the farmhouse into a B & B.  With tender love and care, they restored the historic building and grounds, creating Deer Brook Inn.  The business flourished and became a much desired country retreat.  In early 2003, the McGinty’s sold the inn to the current owners, George DeFina and David Kanal.  George came from Woodstock, New York after retiring as an elementary teacher and union president.  David left New York City and the executive search firm he owned to find a peace and tranquility that he yearned for.  Together they have brought a new life to Deer Brook and a continued commitment to the highest level of service and hospitality.

Come visit us at Deer Brook Inn.  We welcome you to a special place where you can just relax or fill your days with all that our little piece of Heaven has to offer.

Warmest Regards, George & David
